Lviv Honorary Ambassador Roman Lesyk, who has systematized his long-term research on the development of new medicines, has been nominated for the State prize of Ukraine in the field of Science and technology, Uryadovy Courier reports.
His works were included in the joint complex work “High-selective methods of synthesis of heterocyclic compounds, components of functional materials and creation of novel medicines”.
The achievements of the Ukrainian scientist were highly appreciated by well-known European scientists. Professor Stefan Constantinescu, vice-president of the Federation of European Academies of Medicine at the Catholic University of Leuven, Belgium, said: “The contribution of Ukrainian scientists to the field of classical organic chemistry, and medical chemistry, is outstanding, extremely important and internationally recognized”. The number of citations to their articles is impressive. The authors can take on the task of creating medicines and become one of the most competitive groups in this field worldwide. Their research meets the basic unresolved needs of modern medicine”.
Every year in Ukraine, up to fifteen State prizes are awarded in various fields. Its size is determined annually by the President of Ukraine. Last year the size of the State Prize in Science and Technology was 300 thousand UAH each.
