On 9-11 November, the Translating Europe Forum was held in Brussels. Tetyana Struk, CEO of the Linguistic Center, Head of the CLEAR Global Program/Translators Without Borders, opened the forum with a presentation on Ukraine, a community of Ukrainian translators working during the war.
After two years online, the Translating Europe Forum (#2022TEF) was held in Belgium in a hybrid format. The forum brought together experts from the language industry to discuss the pressing issues of translation technology, data quality, availability, and translator skills. Particular attention was paid to translation in crisis situations.
Experts shared their experience and discussed the difficulties translators face when dealing with a mass influx of people who need to understand another language during a crisis. Industry experts have also debated how technology can help in difficult situations, how to meet people with special needs, whether translators should compromise on the quality of translation for the sake of rapid communication, or whether poor quality will do more harm than good.
