The XVIII Congress of WFUMA – World Federation of Ukrainian Medical Associations took place in Lviv on October 1-3, 2020. The opening of the Congress took place in the hall of mirrors of the Lviv Opera on October 1. The Ukrainian Medical Society in Lviv was founded on this day 110 years ago in 1910. Today it is headed by Lviv Honorary Ambassador Andriy Bazylevych.
This year the congress was held in an on-line format (remotely from Lviv and other cities of the world – Kyiv, Odessa, New York, Toronto, London, Barcelona, Sydney). For three days about 700 doctors from Ukraine and Ukrainian doctors from 10 countries took part in 14 congress symposia.
The World Federation of Ukrainian Medical Associations (WFUMA) is the only Ukrainian medical non-governmental organization of international significance in the world that historically originated abroad.
WFUMA was established in 1977 on the initiative of the Ukrainian Medical Association of North America (UMANA), which unites doctors from the United States and Canada since 1950. Its goal is to unite doctors born in Ukraine from every corner of the world to serve for the benefit of their homeland and for the benefit of Ukrainian doctors who were forced to live abroad. Today, WFUMA centres are located in North America (USA and Canada), Brazil, Germany, Great Britain, France, Bulgaria, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Poland, Russia, Australia, Austria, and a number of other countries are in the process of organizing associations.
