We have a great opportunity to once again present Lviv Honorary Ambassador, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Professor, Head of the Department of Statistical Theory of Condensed Systems, Institute of Condensed Matter Physics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Yurij Holovatch.
Professor Holovatch is a Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, a member of the Scientific Committee of the National Council of Ukraine for Science and Technology Development (2017-2019), a member of the Supervisory Board of MECO (Central European Cooperation in Statistical Physics). His research interests include: complex systems, physics of macromolecules (conformational properties of complex polymers), phase transitions and critical phenomena (field theory methods in condensed matter physics), sociophysics, digital humanities, history of science.
He actively talks about his work and shares knowledge with students of Ukrainian and international universities. Co-founder of Cooperation between L4 and the International College of Doctoral Students in Statistical Physics of Complex Systems (Lviv-Nancy-Coventry-Leipzig). He has been awarded by the Universities of Johann Kepler (Linz, Austria) and Coventry (Great Britain).
Since 2006 Yurij Holovatch has been a co-organizer of Science seminar. Scientists of Ukrainian Catholic University, Lviv National University named after Ivan Franko and National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine acquaint students with current research problems, tell about the history of science and its heroes in a language accessible not only to narrow specialists, but also to the general public.
In 2017, Professor Holovatch organized the 2nd Interdisciplinary Workshop «Physics and Humanities. Verba et numeri (quantitative approaches to language and text analysis)». The event focused on quantitative methods and models in linguistics, the concept of complex networks in the analysis of language and text, the NCO alphabet, and so on.
Since 1997, Yurij Holovatch has also been the organizer of the annual Ising Readings workshops.
