From September 27 to October 1, 2022, the 88th Congress of the International PEN Club was held in Uppsala (Sweden). The topic of this year’s congress is “The Power of Speech: Future Challenges to Freedom of Expression. The organizer of the event was Lviv Honorary Ambassador Olha Mukha.
The week-long program of the congress brought together 400 writers from more than 100 PEN centers to discuss, challenge and rethink the understanding of issues such as hate speech, digital surveillance, climate change, wars and post-conflicts, as well as further work of PEN.
The opening ceremony at the University of Uppsala included a conversation about Ukrainian literature during the war. Also, during the Congress, a resolution was adopted in support of Ukraine and the collection “Open Air of Ukraine” was presented – an anthology of texts of 25 Ukrainian authors written after February 24.
