On February 15, the Bone Marrow Transplantation Clinic for Children was opened at the “Western Ukrainian Specialized Children’s Medical Center”. The head of the clinic became the Lviv Honorary Ambassador Roman Kizyma.
The project was implemented in partnership with the Zaporuca Charitable Foundation, with the financial support of the Fondazione Rosa Pristina (Italy), Soleterre (Italy) and the Associazione Italiana di Ematologiae Oncologia Pediatrica (AIEOP) foundations.
It will employ 12 specialists who have undergone internships in the USA and Canada, Japan, Europe, in the WHO structures.
Every year, at least 200 children and adolescents in Ukraine require bone marrow transplantation (autologous, allogeneic). Approximately 50-75 of them are residents of the Western region and 15-20 are residents of Lviv region. Due to this, the Center initiated the creation of a bone marrow transplantation unit.
Municipal non-profit enterprise of the Lviv Regional Council “Western Ukrainian Specialized Children’s Medical Center” is the most powerful medical institution in the Western region of Ukraine for the treatment of pediatric oncology and hematology. Every year, more than 200 children from all regions of Ukraine who suffer from cancer receive highly professional care at the ZUSDMC.
